Whats the deal with people losing (I should say, trying hard) weight just before marriage? I am asking you. I see left, right and center, people "suddenly" (Suddenly is the keyword here - that's why it has been quoted and made bold) are worried about their body and weight and want to do something about it.
I was thinking about it and could not help but to come to a conclusion that its just an effort to look good, naked, in front of your other half. But, its kind of "ok" I guess. #JustSaying

Marriage as an event is very highly over-rated in India these days, especially due to the punjabification of the Indian cultural events. So many new clothes (that you can never wear later), loud music, extreme makeups, dental polishing (yeah they do that also), bridal makeups, Blazers for everyone (as if everyone was working for FBI) and whatnot.
It is a pointeless spending of money for one party which should not be given so much importance. Our forefathers had much less noisy wedding and lived together longer than today's weddings. The focus is more on spending and rich-looks, these days. So losing weight is one another consequence of this.
FWIW, Marriage is an event that appeared only a few hundred years ago. There is no mention of Thaali in Thirukkural or Aganaanooru etc. Somewhere during teh times of the hinduism-thinippu, all these events too sneaked in.
Irulars and many other native Tamil tribes did not had Marriage until few years ago. There were just groups living as families (polygamy, group marriage) etc.
Appearing rich and shiny (even at the cost of having loans) is the The thing now and marriage helps in achieving it.
